Loop Pile Carpet Style

The loops of loop pile carpet are not cut, which forms tufts that bend over into the backing. As with cut pile carpeting, twist and density have a lot to do with how these look and perform. Generally, loop pile carpets are the sensible choice for higher traffic areas. However, keep in mind that seams are slightly more apparent with loop pile carpets than with cut pile styles.

Berber Loop Carpets

Berber loop carpets have a tailored look that can create a casual environment in any room of the home. Berbers are a level loop carpet, usually constructed of large, fat loops. Berber generally is made of a thicker yarn than other level loop pile carpets.

Berber comes in a variety of styles from simple level loop surfaces to geometric patterns. Berber styles are typically produced using light, natural colors such as cream colored loops with flecks of tan and brown.

This is practical carpet. Many Berbers are made of olefin fiber which is impervious to water-based stains, even bleach! Others are made with classic wool or durable nylon. The more texture the carpet has, the less wear it will show. Berber styles with their large, thick loops will maintain an even appearance under heavy foot traffic. Children at play by day or a parents party at night - no need to worry about the carpet.

Level Loop Carpets

Level loop carpets are constructed of many continuous loops of one even height. Because the loops can be made tall or short, thick or thin, loose or tight, fuzzy or shiny, there is much design versatility and they can be brought together in countless combinations.

They can be set in straight rows, geometric patterns or in random textures. While loop pile carpets once started out in office environments, they have now become popular in homes with children and pets because they are very forgiving of heavy traffic.

These "work horse" carpets are perfect for family rooms, playrooms and basements.

Sisals

This style is similar to Berber loop but has more of a woven look, similar to a basket weave.

Sisal adds an interesting, natural and casual look to any room.

Patterned Loop Carpets

The yarns in this style are also looped, but they are at two or three varying heights.

The various heights can be arranged to create a wide range of patterns and textures.
